eCreamery

I daresay the only thing better than an ice cream shop is an ice cream shop offering a dizzying variety of flavors. Put that ice cream shop in Dundee, and you have something great.

eCreamery is something great indeed. The inside is bright and colorful without being overwhelming. Some of the art featured behind the counter was created by a local artist. Circles and bubbles appear to be the main motif, which certainly seems appropriate for a happy ice cream shop. The Dundee location is ideal because the area is already bustling with independent eateries. “We like the environment of Dundee,” says Becky App, one of the owners. “It has such a great energy. It’s a creative place where the...

Older than Beer or Wine

I’ll admit that the first time my friend told me there is a meadery in Bellevue I thought she was saying “meatery” and I couldn’t figure out what all the fuss was about. Once someone explained to me what a meadery actually is, I became so intrigued that I had to go check it out for myself.

Moonstruck Meadery in Bellevue opened its doors October 28, 2011. “We sold out three weeks later,” says Brian Schlueter, the meadery’s founder. “We reopened January 26 and then we closed four weeks later because we ran out of product again. We ramped up production and have been open ever since.”

It’s not a large place, but its cozy atmosphere works perfectly for the laid-back vibe of the meadery....

From right: Phil Anania, Anne Cavanaugh and Byce Coulton.

Come As You Are

An eye for the accessible and a true passion for letting people and food come as they are settles The French Bulldog into its Dundee home.

The highly anticipated neighborhood restaurant and deli opens this Saturday, Sept. 8th at 50th and Underwood streets. It came to fruition over many months of casual conversations and chance meetings between Amsterdam Falafel and Kabab owners Anne Cavanaugh and Phil Anania, and Chef Bryce Coulton, formerly of Pitch and the Boiler Room.

Coulton has made a name for himself amid the Omaha dining scene due to his skills and passion for charcuterie. It was during a culinary program at the Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland that he learned to truly...

Roll into Ponzu

It’s all about the neighborhood.

When Jimi D’s Food & Spirits opened four years ago, owner Jimi DiPrima didn’t have big culinary dreams or a snooty design scheme. He just wanted to make it thee neighborhood spot.

Four years and a lot of pints of draft beer later – Jimi D’s pours the most Stella Artois in Nebraska – DiPrima’s first restaurant has become a neighborhood favorite, filled with familiar faces on any given day or night.

It was the passion for all things sushi that led DiPrima to open his second restaurant, Ponzu Sushi & Grill, earlier this year. With work experience at Blue Sushi in the Old Market, he wanted to bring the cuisine to Aksarben.

Though the name comes from a...
