Sunday Roadhouse hosts its first-ever outdoor show
* The Sunday Roadhouse concert series will celebrate its ninth anniversary of hosting roots, blues and Americana shows with a big show Sunday, Sept. 23rd at the Omaha chapter of the American G.I. Forum, 2002 N St. Idaho-born singer Eilen Jewell headlines the Roadhouse's first-ever outdoor show, which will also feature the Johnsen Brothers, the Mercurys and the Loose Brothers. The show is scheduled rain or shine and kicks off at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance at SundayRoadhouse.com.
* KQBW 96.1 FM is the home of Omaha's latest FM radio programming shift. The station, formerly known as the Brew, has ditched 80s, 90s and adult-alternative pop hits for a contemporary hit radio format. The Clear Channel-owned station has rebranded itself as KISS-FM, directly pitting its format against KQCH 94.1 FM, which is owned by the Journal Broadcast Group.
* Local trio Honey & Darling have expanded to a four-piece lineup and adopted a new name. The band is now known as See Through Dresses, with Nate Van Fleet joining the original trio of Sara Bertuldo, Matt Carroll and Robert Little.
* Several local theaters plan to show Searching For Sugar Man, the acclaimed rock documentary about Detroit folk-rock cult hero Sixto Rodriguez. The film is being rolled out on Friday, October 12th. Film Streams at the Ruth Sokoloff Theater, 1340 Mike Fahey Street, AMC Oakview Plaza 24, 3555 South 140th Plaza and Lincoln's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center, 313 North 13th St. all are scheduled to run the film. Rodriguez developed a cult following in South Africa on the strength of his two albums, Cold Fact and Coming From Reality. However, his lack of American success swept him out of the limelight for nearly three decades. The documentary details Rodriguez's life, his cult status and his re-emergence over the last ten years.
* Matt Cox, One Eye White and the Weeping Figs are on tap for the next Hootenanny Tuesday, Sept. 11th at the Waiting Room Lounge, 6212 Maple St. These special performances boast an early start time of 5 p.m. and are only $5. The proceeds of each event are donated to a local charity. This show's earnings will go to Truck Farm Omaha, a nonprofit that seeks to spread farm-fresh vegetables and agriculture education throughout the city.
