On the heels of releasing his best CD yet, Soul Shot (Alligator), Curtis Salgado will take a brief tour break to deal with a tumor found in his lung. Alligator Records reports that Salgado will undergo surgery in Portland, Ore., on July 18.
“Salgado will be hospitalized for a period of four to six days,” according to the Alligator press release, “and will require a recovery time of up to four weeks. Salgado and his doctors anticipate a complete recovery.” Cancelled tour dates are expected to be made up in the fall.
The Hullabaloo Music & Camping Festival is working on a new headliner for its Soul Salvation & Blues Appreciation Sunday, Aug. 5. Promoter and Kris Lager Band bassist Brandon Miller says there will be a replacement act that will be an appropriately soulful wrap up to the second annual three-day Hullabaloo festival. The Sunday Roadhouse brings gritty roots-soul artist Grant Peeples to The Side Door Lounge Sunday, July 8, 5 p.m. The Florida-based songwriter-guitarist has a new disc out called Prior Convictions, produced by Gurf Morlix, that is topping Folk/Roots charts in the U.S. Peeples’ voice has the growl and edge of artists like Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen and his writes poetic, wry, even sly and often-irreverent lyrics rooted in his Southern Gothic heritage.
