Millard principal’s condition improves

Principal Curtis Case was upgraded to fair condition Jan. 6 after being shot a day earlier at Millard South High School. Case was previously listed in serious condition. Robert Butler Jr., 17, shot Case and Assistant Principal Vicki Kaspar shortly before 1 p.m. on Jan. 5. He had been suspended from school earlier that day. Butler was found dead in a nearby parking lot from a self-inflicted gunshot wound a short time later. Kaspar, 57, died at the Creighton University Medical Center later that evening. Butler was the son of Omaha police detective, Robert Butler Sr. The gun used in the shooting was Butler Sr.'s police weapon. The shooting was the first at a Nebraska school since 1995, when Shane Goffena, 13, shot and wounded a middle school teacher in Chadron.
