Magic Slim in Pennsylvania hospital

Chicago blues icon Magic Slim, who moved to Lincoln in 1994, is in a Pennsylvania hospital, after falling ill while on tour.

The news broke Wednesday night, though Slim has been on life support for a week.

Born Morris Holt, Magic Slim made a name for himself as an electric guitarist and vocalist. Magic Slim split time between the Chicago juke joints, national tours and the stage at Lincoln's Zoo Bar when he relocated to Nebraska nearly two decades ago.

His son, Shawn Holt, also became a Zoo Bar mainstay, playing as Lil' Slim. Shawn Holt is in Pennsylvania with his father.

Earlier reports from the Lincoln Journal Star and posted on the Zoo Bar's official Facebook page reported that Slim had died earlier Wednesday. Both Slim's manager and his son reported that Slim was still alive as of Thursday morning.
