* Brent Crampton's five-year-old DJ night loom is about to evolve into something a lot more permanent. House of Loom, 1012 South 10th St., will be a bar, night club, art space and progressive community center, according to a release from Crampton. The venue is scheduled for a summer opening and the space, which formerly housed Bones and the Goofy Foot Lodge, has been extensively gutted since Bones closed last month. The beginning of House of Loom also means loom, as a traveling entity, will have one last night, scheduled for Thursday, June 2 at Espana, 6054 Maple St. Learn more about House of Loom at HouseofLoom.com and about loom at LoomWeaves.com. * Palmist Records, the vinyl-only imprint of UK-based FatCat Records, announced their second release, prominently featuring Omaha's own Yuppies. Yuppies and Oxford, England-based Bitches will each take up a side of a 12-inch split record, due out June 20. Yuppies’ side consists of seven songs and represents another step towards the tantalizing promise of a future full-length release. * The Zac Brown Band is playing Red Sky Festival, after a few days of confusion over the booking. Omaha.com reported as much Monday, but neither Red Sky's website nor their Facebook page contained any confirmation of the band's Thursday, July 21 appearance, until late Wednesday. . * Man Man finally delivered on their hyped-up live show prowess during a Sunday night show at The Slowdown, 729 North 14th St. The Philadelphia indie rockers, who recorded their latest album Life Fantastic with Omaha producer Mike Mogis, combined the energy of Tom Waits, the B-52's, early Queen and Modest Mouse into their own gypsy-punked image, during an engaging and musically taut performance. Past performances seemed to sag after 45 minutes, but this time out Man Man brought a stronger selection of songs that matched the manic motions of frontman Honus Honus. During all the chaotic ticks of the band, the sterling musicianship and pure energy shined through brightly. * So the best shows in Omaha are free this summer. After Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings rock the Lewis & Clark Landing for Playing With Fire's July 16 farewell show, Omahans will have a free Slowdown show headlined by the almighty indie bar-rockers The Hold Steady to anticipate. That show, a Toyota Antics event, will take place Friday, August 26 at 4 p.m.
