Emphatic prepare for second album’s release

* Local hard rock heroes Emphatic are gearing up for their second major label release, after leaving Atlantic Records for their new home Epochal Artists Records, a subsidiary of Capitol Records. The band is attempting to release their latest single by Tuesday, July 16th, while their as-yet-untitled album is due in stores Tuesday, September 10th, according to new lead singer Toryn Green. Green, the former singer of alternative rock band Fuel, joined the band last year. The band also features original member and Omaha native Justin McCain, who is the band's main songwriter and lead guitarist.

* The third annual Hullabaloo Music and Camping Festival is scheduled for Thursday, September 5th through Sunday, September 8th. The camping and music festival is set to take over Sokol Park, 905 Allied Road in Bellevue. Aaron Freeman, the former lead singer of Ween, will headline the event, which will also feature performances by Monophonics, Blackalicious and the Pimps of Joytime. A host of local will also take the stage at the event, including the Kris Lager Band, Blue Martian Tribe, BASSthoven, Purveyors of the Conscious Sound, Rock Paper Dynamite, Matt Whipkey, Funk Trek, the Hector Anchondo Band and John Klemmensen & the Party. * The Nebraska Arts Council awarded choral group Voices of Omaha with a $4,729 grant to support the group's educational outreach. The group performs a yearly concert of Handel's Messiah at the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St. The 45th annual performance is scheduled for Sunday, November 24th and is a free show. In addition to the Holland performance, the group also does outreach to local high schools and brings in students to participate in the chorus. * Tommy Colina's Kitchen West, 17857 Pierce Plaza, is now hosting a weekend acoustic music series. These free shows run Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9 p.m., in conjunction with a reverse happy hour menu.
