Cutting Room for February 15

  • March is home to more than leprechauns and toilets full of what once was green beer, as it’s also home to Disabilities Awareness Month. In collaboration with The Meyer Foundation for Disabilities, Film Streams at the Ruth Sokolof Theater is presenting four free screenings and panel discussions on Mondays in March. The forthcoming foursome of films will cover such subjects as autism, Down syndrome and hearing disabilities, and each screening will have a different organization participate in the discussion, based on the subject matter. For more about the individual movies and show times, hit up filmstreams.org. You may need to beware the ides of March, but you should also be aware of these movies this March.
  • If you needed another reason to hit up the Omaha Film Festival (omahafilmfestival.org), I have one that will squeeze you to death with her thighs. Famke Janssen (Goldeneye, X-Men) will be there opening night March 7 at the Great Escape Theatre (greatescapetheatres.com) to see the screening of the movie she wrote and directed, Bringing Up Bobby. While she’s there to talk about her film, I hope she’ll still have time for my important questions like “You’re pretty.” I know that’s not actually a question, but I hope I get an answer.
  • Lionsgate, who bought Summit Entertainment a few weeks back in order to get their hands on the Twilight franchise, has shockingly announced on a conference call to announce third quarter earnings that they are more than willing to make a sixth movie if Stephanie Meyer will write another book. Join me in my quest to ban the written word. I realize that losing literature is a steep price to pay, but we’re talking about another Twilight book, so even the nuclear option is on the table.
