Margaritas are wonderful in the summertime, but if you’re using one of those pre-made mixes to make ’em, you’re adding unnecessary calories and unwanted ingredients. Invest in some agave nectar the next time you’re at the grocery store (it’ll be in the health food section or baking aisle near the sugar). It’s very low in calories and, since it’s made from the same plant as the tequila you’re drinking, will add that extra something to your cocktail. Here’s a simple recipe: 1 1/2 oz tequila (white/blanco is good, but any will work) 1 oz FRESH lime juice, not that crap in the bottle 3/4 oz agave nectar Splash of sparkling water, if desired Mix and serve over ice. Bonus drink: substitute rum for the tequila, shake well and you’ve got a daiquiri. Kyle Tonniges
