In Search of Breakfast

Mere words cannot describe the warm affection I feel toward the breakfast meal. I consider myself quite the breakfast aficionado, so it only makes sense that I would venture out to various breakfast spots in town in search of the best place I could find where the food is delicious and the menu delightfully varied.

Vidlak’s Brookside Café has a no-nonsense ambiance. You seat yourself and the efficient wait staff suddenly appears out of nowhere. There is not much by way of décor, but what it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in great food and low prices.

Outstanding in The Field comes to Nebraska

Local food connoisseurs are looking forward to the Outstanding in The Field Dinner this Saturday, August 4th at Branched Oak Farm in Raymond Nebraska, owners Doug and Krista Dittman. The event is part of the Outstanding in the Field 2012 North American Tour.

Plenty of Hops to go around, The Lincoln Children's Zoo is having a Brew and Blues at the Zoo night for ADULTS only. On July 28, you can sample local beers from Thunderhead Brewing, Lucky Bucket Brewery, Gottberg Brewing as well as others while listening to some Nebraska blues from music champions Lil'Slim Blues Band. Brats and Burgers will also be available. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Your ticket includes three drinks and admission to event. Benson is buzzing with Lot2

When I moved to Omaha five years ago, I have to admit, Benson scared me a little bit. Lots of hole-in-the wall bars, and that crazy maternity shop with the world’s largest bra in the window. However, recently, Benson is buzzing. You can almost feel the tingling in the air – change is a brewing and new businesses are adding a light to the area. A major reason for that new glowing sensation is Lot 2 Restaurant and Wine Bar. Since its opening two months ago, I have heard people starting to talk about it more and more. If you have never been, then you should go out of your way to Metropolitan Community Colleges' Sage Student Bistro on the Fort Campus (30th and Fort, Building 22). It was recently voted best overall restaurant in Nebraska by the users of OpenTable, an online reservation service with over 18,700 users. The Bistro also placed second in the overall food category and came in fourth for ambience.
