Throughout the month of June, La Casa Pizzaria is celebrating their 60th year as one of Omaha’s favorite restaurants. They opened in 1953 and have been happily making pizza ever since. In celebration, there will be many summer specials such as Stuffed Peppers and Caprese Salad as well as weekly drawings for prizes, a new wine list and other memorabilia on display. La Casa will also debut a new beer made especially for them by the folks at Empyrean Ales proudly named “BrewCasa Sesssanta” Amber Ale.

The Nebraska Restaurant Association has set the date for the 2013 Taste of Nebraska to April 29th at the Strategic Air and Space Museum in Ashland. This year’s theme will be “Up, Up, and Away!” Tim Miles, UNL Men’s Head Basketball Coach, will be the featured speaker. This year the event will offer a Nebraska Beer Tasting from over twelve different Nebraska Breweries during the cocktail hour. Guests will also be introduced to Qtego – a mobile text bidding service which will allow the guests instant real-time bidding from anywhere within the event. But I would say that it is our connection to local food and the farmers that provide their goods and wares to be one of the strongest, greatest connections between diners, chefs, restaurants and community.
