Jon Seymour’s Big Move

V. Mertz chef Jon Seymour has plans to open his own restaurant. If you’re familiar with his prestigious career –including award nominations and time spent at the infamous Noma in Denmark – the news that he’s branching out on his own is probably making you quite excited, and perhaps a little hungry.

Happy “Nosh” Year

Nosh Restaurant and Wine Lounge is offering a special four-course dinner for New Year’s Eve. The $50 per-person cost also includes a glass of sparkling wine. Omaha Restaurant Association

The Omaha Restaurant Association announced the date for their annual meeting: Monday, January 12 at Anthony’s Steakhouse. Of course it’s a dinner meeting, and includes cocktails, food and awards. New members will also be inducted. A portion of the ticket purchase price is tax-deductible.

Cookies, Carols & Cocoa

Omaha Culinary Tours offers some pretty impressive tours throughout the year, but the Cookies, Carols & Cocoa tour is just about as “holiday” as you can get without wearing a Santa costume. Skate & Feed

If you plan on visiting the ConAgra Foods ice skating rink after its opening on December 12, bring along some non-perishable food items to add to the donation boxes there. Food donations go to Foodbank for the Heartland. Monetary donations are accepted too.

Eat & Give

While you’re in the giving mood after ice skating, head to Brownie’s Watering Hole in Papillion for some good bar food. Bring new, unwrapped toys with you when you visit and they’ll be donated to Cheryl’s Stockings, a nonprofit organization that collects toys for underprivileged kids.

Congrats, Nebraska Brewing Company

Nebraska Brewing Company just added another award to their growing list, and this one’s international. In the European Beer Star competition, Nebraska Brewing Company’s Cardinal Pale Ale won the Gold Medal. This is no easy feat considering the judging was done by a panel of international beer experts.

Holiday Market

You can never have too much fancy cheese and jams and all that jazz on hand during the holiday season, whether it’s to gift to someone or to eat on your own because it’s too cold to venture outdoors to find food. Either way, plan on heading to the annual Holiday Market at Aksarben Village, sponsored by the Omaha Farmers Market. This outdoor market is on December 6 and 7, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
