Return of the Spits

* Capgun Coup's Sam Martin and solo artist Sean Pratt have collaborated on a new digital download EP. Kids, Beat Your Vegetables features two songs by each artist and the two together on the song "Tonight You Belong To Me". The $5 EP is available at samueladammartin.bandcamp.com.

* The Spits, Portland's stupidest/awesomest punk-pop garage rocker, return to Omaha Monday, March 11th at the Slowdown, 729 North 14th Street. This much-needed dose of over-the-top rocking comes after last year's triumphant performance with OFF!. This time, the Spits are dishing it out alone, so expect bigger costumes, more songs and even more punk-drunk hilarity. The Spits are going to Texas for South By Southwest, where their performances have garnered legendary status. Come watch as the Spits play Omaha's party and then pass out on our front lawn for a night.

* The Reader has chosen experimental avant-blues indie act UUVVWWZ to represent Omaha at this year's South By Southwest in Austin, Tex. UUVVWWZ is set to play a showcase put on by their label, Saddle Creek Records. As the Reader's Media Sponsored Act, expect to see updates from the band during their trek to Texas. The band will play a pre-SXSW show Friday, March 8th at the Slowdown, alongside similarly Austin-bound Icky Blossoms. The band is currently on a West Coast tour that included a sold-out show with Built to Spill in Idaho.

* Local rapper Jimmy Hooligan is collaborating with Big Mike of the Geto Boys. Hooligan is guesting on two songs slated for Big Mike's next album and the two are scheduled to perform together in Austin, Tex. during the week of South By Southwest. On that joint showcase, local DJs Surreal the MC and E Babbs will also man the decks during the event. Meanwhile, Hooligan is currently wrapping up production of his fifth album, D.A.W.B. or Dirty A-s White Boy.  No release date has been set for the upcoming album.

* Rainy Road Records releases are now available for sale at Homer's Music, 1210 Howard St. The $5 cassette tapes include titles by local garage rock artists like Peace of Shit, Worried Mothers, Snake Island and Brimstone Howl.
