Local bands line up new releases

* Jake Bellows will release New Ocean, his debut solo album, Tuesday, August 6th on Saddle Creek Records. Bellows fronted long-running local indie rock band Neva Dinova, whose last album also came out on Saddle Creek. After that album, Bellows relocated to Los Angeles. Bellows returned to Omaha to record his new album at ARC Studios engineer Ben Brodin and a host of musicians including Ryan Fox, Todd Fink and Heath Koontz. In addition to the CD and vinyl on Saddle Creek, New Ocean will also be available on a limited edition cassette through Majestic Litter. Bellows will tour this summer, as well.

* Twinsmith will celebrate the release of their debut album with a show Friday, July 12th at O'Leaver's Pub, 1322 South Saddle Creek Road. Noah's Ark Was a Spaceship and Gordon will also play the show, which serves as the start of a two-plus week tour for Twinsmith. Twinsmith will trek east all the way out to New York City before returning home. The band's debut album is also streaming online at twinsmith.com.

* Snake Island! will kick off an extensive West Coast tour Saturday, July 13th at the Waiting Room Lounge. The show will also serve as a release show for the band's new album. The band is still finalizing the name of their album, which will be released by Make Believe Records. The 30-day tour will take the band all the way to Southern California, Washington and Arizona. Universe Contest and Plack Blague will open the show.

* Bullet Proof Hearts will be releasing a new single on vinyl via Drastic Plastic Records. The release will mark Drastic Plastic Records' first original, new release. The label, an offshoot of the the longtime downtown counter-culture retailer, mostly presses vinyl re-issues of punk classics. The record will be available at Bullet Proof Hearts' shows and at Drastic Plastic, 1209 Howard St.
