Cutting Room for April 26

  • To completely misuse a profound quote: “First MTV came for ‘Carmen,’ and I didn’t speak out because I was curious what a ‘hip-hopera’ was. Then MTV came for Teen Wolf, and I didn’t speak out because nobody cares about Teen Wolf. Then MTV came for Scream and there was no one left watching MTV.” That’s right, Scream is going to be an ongoing series on “Music Television,” with Wes Craven potentially directing the pilot. We can’t be more than a decade away from “Schindler’s List: Real World vs Road Rules Challenge.”
  • Bored? Here’s a fun game: Get a group of animation-enthusiasts together and say, “Did you hear? They’re turning Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved Kiki’s Delivery Service into a live-action movie.” Then stand back as their heads start to swell. Then yell “But Miyazaki’s on board with it! In fact, he just contributed to a live-action short prequel to one of his other films, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.” If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the exact moment a movie nerd’s brain pretzels itself. Just stand a safe distance back…
  • Gwyneth Paltrow, emboldened by People Magazine’s coveted “You’s the prettiest” award, just killed Iron Man. She declared the Iron Man movies are at an end with the third installment hitting theaters now. And as we know, nobody in Hollywood makes a sequel without Paltrow’s go ahead. Listen, there’s every chance this is Paltrow’s last Iron Man, but unless Marvel refuses to make money unless Paltrow is comfortable, I bet we get more.
  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum may remake Guys and Dolls for 20th Century Fox. That sound you hear is 90% of women and 10% of men excusing themselves from public for a moment.

I have “the fever.” No, it’s not curable by penicillin or cowbell. It’s World Cup fever, which has given me an understanding of what constitutes offsides in soccer and the knowledge that Ronaldo is a...
